YouTube for Documents

How different can this be from Google Docs, where you can collaborate your documents and spreadsheets? Well you cannot tag or comment on the uploaded documents. Can you? Secondly Google Docs is not a social network, does not support .ppt, .ps, .pdf files.

Who is the new kid on the social network to do all of this? Scribd is!

  • You can download your document as .pdf’s, .docs, .txt, and even .mp3 files.
  • Documents can be displayed and embedded as html or the under-utilized, and faster-than-a-pdf, Flash paper format.

From what I read on TechCrunch

The mp3 version is created by Scribd’s text-to-speech package (powered by Nuance) that lets you listen to the text of your document in a quivering British accent (downloadable example here).

I have just uploaded a document. Naturally due to extremely high demand, conversion of my document is taking too much time. I am sure this will settle down in time to come.

Give it a shot. When registering, email is optional. Just fill ‘er with desired username, password and off you go. Atleast one less email to respond to ;-)

What do you think – will it work?
