Hack: Windows Mobile Device Center

If you are using Windows Vista and have a Windows Mobile device, you need Windows Mobile Device Center, which is ActiveSync for pre-Vista users, with additional features I am sure. These applications are used to synchronize files and information between the handheld device and the personal computer, laptop, tabletpc.

When you launch Windows Mobile Device Center you will see a generic image of either a PocketPC or Smartphone. This can be changed. Yes, thats right. You can customise that.

How?

Replace the sync.ico in c:\users\(your username)\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\ActiveSync\Profiles\(your profile key)\

Replace the sync.ico in Windows directory of the device.

Make sure you are not connected via the cradle. Need to be offline.

Delete the device from Windows Mobile Device Center.

Place the device on the cradle and add your device.

Done!

All this made possible by Michael Railing. He has kindly shared icons for various devices.

What do you think? How cool was that? Your opinion matters. Rate this post -)
