HowTo Enable IIS in Windows7 from CLI

This how to is enable IIS in Windows7, either using GUI or CLI. This is one of the pre-requisites for installing SharePoint 2010 on Windows7 for development purposes.

1. Click [Start] button.

2. In the [Search Box] box, type [windows features].

3. Click [###].

4. Double-click [Internet Information Services] check box.

5. Double-click [Web Management Tools] check box.

6. Double-click [World Wide Web Services] check box.

7. Double-click [IIS 6 Management Compatibility] check box.

8. Double-click [Application Development Features] check box.

9. Double-click [Common HTTP Features] check box.

10. Drag from [Position] indicator to [Tablet PC Components] check box.

11. Double-click [Health and Diagnostics] check box.

12. Double-click [Performance Features] check box.

13. Double-click [Security] check box.

Alternatively you can use these command line to do the same thing:

Start a Command Prompt and paste in this command.

XP: Born Before 1980?

In Windows XP, there is no calender before year 1980! How exciting?! I was having a discussion with my sister about the day of my birth in the year 1975 and I just launched the calender in XP. To my dismay, there is no calender before 1980!

Well what do you think? What’s it like in Vista? Shocker isn’t it?!!

Office 2007: Preview Handlers

Earlier I had written on how to get HTML signatures in Outlook 2007. Preview handlers are not available in Outlook 2007 under Windows XP. That is the bane of many users. We had a healthy comment discussion on this here. Douglas has written an original mac-pc debate as well ;-)

These handlers have been ‘turned off’, presumably for security reasons. But hey, Azar has written a preview handler wrapper for Outlook 2007 under Windows XP! Filetypes that you will be able to run in Outlook 2007 are:

PDF

SWF

HTML/HTM/XML

ASF/WMV/WMA/AVI/WAV/MPG/MPEG/MP3/MIDI/AIFF/AU

ZIP/GADGET/MSI/RESX/SNK/KEYS

CS/VB/SQL/JS

Windows live is in news again, for all good reason. I came across some windows live links, that are not known of. If you did know even one of the links, then it’s cool cool

I saw these links on Zack’s Blog.

Windows Live: Beta Participation

A new beta program for “Messenger, Mail, and Writer” has just appeared on Microsoft Connect . This means that these three programs will be releasing into beta soon.

To participate in the beta, you need to answer a nomination survey. 21 questions to be precise. Questions range covers all 3 Windows Live products.

Some of the questions are listed here:
