BIG: MOM Presentation

Last Thursday at the Brisbane Infrastructure Group – October Meet, I did a session on Microsoft Operations Manager. It was time, I gave something to the community, so why not on Microsoft Operations Manager!

The aim was to share my field experience on MOM with other members of the group. I was surprised to see quite a few hands go up, when I asked “How many people are using MOM?”

It’s good to know that quite a few people are using MOM in their environment. MOM v2 is a great product, which not only reduces or possibly eliminates mundane system administrator’s tasks, but helps better manage the infrastructure, proactively.

I was personally satisfied with the presentation – my first at BIG, and many members of the group would like to get their hands on the slides. Well, here it is

In coming weeks, I am going to share more information on MOM v2 – that will help people get started with MOM and also for those who already have MOM in their environment.

MOM: Basic Windows Security MP

Now this is what I have been wanting to implement for sometime now and Michel has done it! Michel has gone a step further and actually created a MP for basic Windows Security check.

Due to account policy’s we forbid administrators to logon with specific domain admin accounts or with the local administrator accounts. Also wanted was a security audit to lookup or monitor possible attacks.

To do this I’ve written a simple security management pack. That collects all security events and generate alerts when a logon fails 3 times within 3 min , account rights are changed and when a local administrator, specific admin account logon (successful) is detected.
