Yes, it’s coming! If you haven’t heard, read then here is the repeat of the buzz… SharePoint Service Pack 1 is expected to be released in late June, 2011!

I am interested in this service pack more then ever, for a reason – self service recovery of site collections and sites! As a site collection administrator, if your user has deleted a site what options do you have to recover them?

If you have a recent backup (which you would) and on-site (which you should not) then out of the box you can recover the site from an unattached content database… but that’s going to cost – time and resources. Read the rest of this entry »

Using Imagex to apply an image in the following scenario’s is known and commonly used

1. Apply an image to a vhd
2. Apply an image to an active partition

So how about creating a base image and then capture that in a WIM (Windows Image) that you can backup and reuse whenever you want, instead of having to install Windows Server 2008 R2 OS and SQL and the works!

Once you have this base wim captured, apply this to the vhd that you will boot into and in turn leverage on full 8GB RAM or 16GB…. bare metal power! Read the rest of this entry »

This is an interesting one and when I saw the answer to this question in the MSDN forums, I knew that is worth referring to on my blog.

This was the question:

When a list in SharePoint 2010 has inbound email setup, for example, it would be: MyList@sp2010.domain.local (sp2010 is the name of the SharePoint server, domain.local is the local domain).

I was honoured to be speaking at Microsoft India’s premier annual event of the year in Bangalore this year – Tech.Ed India 2011.

It was a quick trip to Bangalore – less then a week, but well worth the travel and the hectic schedule resulting. I really enjoyed presenting 2 sessions over the period of 2 days and also participating in some roundtable discussions with some head honchos from Microsoft Product Teams from Redmond. It was a privilege to be invited by the MVP lead of India Abhishek Kant and Abhishek Baxi to these discussions where majority if not all were MVPS, so guys a big thank you for having me in the discussions.

In less then a week, I will be at the Australia SharePoint Conference 2011 in Sydney. I am delighted to co-present with Michael Noel on Backup and Restore for SharePoint 2010: Protecting Mission Critical SharePoint Data with new tools and technologies on Day One.

In addition to presenting on this topic, I will also be doing a pre-conference workshop – Get To The Point on SharePoint 2010 – Business Continuity Management.
